Band and Art Show showcases CHS talent

Band+and+Art+Show+showcases+CHS+talent

The band performance and art show took place Thursday April 30th. The spring concert had wonderful music with a beautiful display from the art students displayed in the lobby.

The band had four different groups play. Two awards were also presented by Mr. Perdoni, the band teacher at Colonia High; the awards went to Madison Kaye and Michael Misciagna.

Madison Kaye is a senior at Colonia and plays the flute and piccolo, at the band and art show she preformed in the wind ensemble. She is also in marching band, where she is the section leader for the flutes but she is also in chorus. In chorus, she sings in the accapella, girl choir and regular chorus. The night of the concert she won the John Philps Susa Award. Along with that she got a certificate, trophy a pin and a hundred dollars from the band which can be but to her college education. Madison is planning on going to a college in Washington, Maryland. She is also planning on continuing her musical career and minor in music.

Michael on the other hand won the Louis Armstrong Award, which is a jazz award. With the award he also got a hundred dollars like Madison, a certificate, a trophy and plack that can be found outside the band room. Michael is also a senior and next year is planning on going to Middlesex, but he wants to attend the college of NJ. Although Michael has taken music theory and played all the school bands at once he at the moment he isn’t planning on majoring or minoring in any type of music. The night of the band show he was playing in the wind ensemble, jazz band, and sax ensemble.  Other than that he is also in marching band, where he is the section leader for the saxophones. He also does the lighting for stage crew.

Other than the awards there was a great amount of solos. Most of the solos were in the Jazz Band. Mr. Perdoni, the band teacher at CHS  said that everyone in jazz improvised in class and during the show if they wanted a solo they were allowed one. The lucky people who played solos were Jess Moarley, Micheal Miscigna, Josh on guitar, Andrew, Wilmond, and many others.
