A bond from birth

Taylor Salotti and Sara Salotti are not just twins but best friends. Despite similarities, these twins have characteristics that make them unique.

Taylor Salotti and Sara Salotti were born at JFK hospital in Edison at 10:01 am and 10:02 am, respectively. They are currently 17 years old, attending Colonia High School as seniors. The Salotti twins wore matching outfits until about the 3rd grade when their grandmother made them Christmas clothes, but since then they have let their individuality shine.

School

When you are a twin, you are guaranteed to know at least one other person at school. Sara stated, “Going to school together can be difficult at times because Taylor has been in three of my classes since middle school and it would be hard to see her get in trouble by the teachers. But we always had each other’s back if one of us got picked on or teased.” Going to school with your twin can be tough at times. Sara believes that going to the same college would be good for her because she is very shy and would like to be more independent. As Sara noted, “When Taylor and I were younger I was always by her side because she would make many more friends than me, but for college I think we’re going to different schools so we can learn to grow and become our own people.”

Best friend or not close?

Taylor and Sara evidently have a very close bond. Taylor explained, “I believe my twin is my best friend because I can always count on her and talk to her about anything. Even though we get into many fights and disagree on things, we are the best of friends. I like being a twin because we have the same friends and it is nice having a sibling your own age to talk to.”

Driving

Would you buy your twins separate cars?  For Taylor and Sara, the answer is yes. They both drive to school every day in their different cars –Taylor has a Kia Sorrento, and Sara has a Jeep Liberty. So, why not drive together? “We take our own cars because Taylor always drives people home and goes everywhere,” explained Sara.

Hobbies

Taylor and Sara have the same hobbies; for instance, both are involved in marching band. Taylor is in the guard while Sara conducts the marching band.  Both are in choir together, like to dance, and when they were younger they used to do karate and gymnastics together. However, Sara acts in the school play while Taylor normally assists with ushering for the showings.

Being a Twin

“Being a twin is not that different from having any other sibling. It’s just that she is your same age and has the same birthday as you,” Taylor revealed, yet people often mix up their names. Despite this slight annoyance, Taylor likes “being a twin because we have the same friends and it is nice having a sibling your own age to talk to.”

Friends

The Salotti twins generally share the same friends. For example, some of their friends are Melanie and Tiffanie Arokioswamy, Anastasia and Panagiotis Theologis, and Chelsea Chesney–basically, as Sara stated, “the band people and choir people.”  Having the same friends can be fun, except when others confuse their names!

Future

After two graduation gowns are pressed and two sisters turn their tassles, they will head for the first time down different paths.  They will be majoring in different areas and hope to learn to be independent while still maintaining their special sisterly bond. They will certainly talk while attending different schools, but for the first time they will get to truly explore their individuality.
