The fashion in year of 2013 focused around minimalism (simplicity.) All trends that arose this year were extremely simple and sleek. Nothing was very over the edge or tacky. 2013 was all about having a clean under the radar yet very good looking outfits.
One trend we saw rising a lot in men’s jeans/pants was waxed denim. Waxed denim has a really nice simple look to it. It would give a look of leather yet with the comfort of jeans. The wax applied to it sometimes gives it an ombre look. This trend was popularized by artist Kanye West, one of the top most influential people in fashion without even being a designer.
Another trend that was unisex was the all black trend. Both men and women went through with this trend and it was a really dark, rock star type of look. An example of an outfit would be a long sleeved Hood By Air shirt, with Levi’s 510 denim ripped at the knees, and black sneakers such as vans or even boots. Leather jackets were also a major aspect in this all black theme.
Women followed a lot of boy’s trends such as flannels around waists, beanies, long shirts and sneakers. Although girls played it low-key with their clothes, with their hair they implemented the hottest hair tool of 2013– the sock bun. It’s a technique where girls wrap their hair into a bun sort of poof on the top of their head, resembling a bagel, more than a bun. This style got extremely popular among girls of all ages, all around the world because it was easy to do and looked very neat and tidy.
Guy’s hairstyles were also simple. Spiky hair and faux hawks made its way out of 2012 and never seemed to return, however the new comb over has taken 2013 by storm. Every other male now has one, a slick back or to the side waxed look resembling the 50’s pompadour when they had short hair on sides yet a poof in the front. Celebrities such as David Beckham made this look popular, but other celebrities such as Zayn Malik, and Justin Beiber added their own twist to it by having a messy look on top with short hair on the sides.
Fashion has changed many times over the years, but I seemed to like this one the best. This year’s fashion was a combination of a lot of things done in the past that were bought back, and some new sorts of styles were also added. The best part about this year’s fashion was peoples courage to wear what they wanted regardless of others opinions.
