Broad Street Dough Co. in Oakhurst, NJ, is a recent hit among teens driving. Over the weekend, students from Colonia drove and hour down the shore to get the donuts. Is it really worth it?

Recently, all over Instagram, everyone has been following a famed pastry place, Broad Street Dough Co. People have been posting filtered pictures of a box of donuts with a checkered wax paper underneath, all over social media, whether it be Twitter, Instagram or into their Snapchat stories. The donuts may not be considered just donuts, but delicious, edible, pieces of art.

Their menu consists of a variety of different flavors, colors, and designs. They are best known for their donut specials. Every day they have a different “special”, or a type of donut that is made all day on that single day. Some donuts relate to a specific holiday on that day, or they just are a bizarre donut.  Their Instagram account currently has over forty-thousand followers, and they post tons of pictures of their donuts daily.

Overall, after my first visit, their donuts were amazing. They didn’t have an artificial taste, as Dunkin Donuts’ donuts do.

They were a bit on the smaller side, but the cake part of the donut was filling, so it didn’t matter. They make the donuts right in front of you, so as you order, they begin tossing the donuts from the cooling racks, into warm vanilla glaze, melted chocolate, powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, etc. They top off the donuts with pretzels, wet walnuts, rainbow sprinkles, or whatever else was included on the donut you ordered.

The workers were extremely kind and patient, as there were a lot of people there on the weekend. The wait time for the donuts was only about five minutes, and it was well worth the wait. A baker calls your name, and shows you the donuts, then closes it in front of you, with a smile and a “Enjoy, have a good day!”

The best part was, that you can feel the warmth from the donuts on the outside of the box. That’s how you know they’re fresh out of the oven. Another plus is this donut place is only ten minutes away from Asbury Park, which is famed for their beautiful beaches, fancy boutiques on

The one downside of this place is that it is easily missed, it is part of a strip mall, rather than a lone-standing building. The first time around I visited the place, I totally missed it, as it did not have any signs or something that would stick out to make it more visible.

The donuts are not overly expensive, they’re decently priced, other than the fact that the “special” donuts, are extra, depending on what’s on them. A single donut costs $1.59, a box of six $8.99, a box of 9 is $11.99, and a box of twelve is $14.99. Other than that, it was an overall amazing experience, and I have been there three more times since.
