Stand for Children: 16th Annual Backpack Campaign

Attention Colonia High School Community:

The Interact Rotary Club is orchestrating the Stand for Children 16th Annual Backpack Campaign to help children who are removed from their homes and placed in Foster Care adjust to unfamiliar surroundings. We are asking members of the Colonia High School community to contribute to the collection of the following items needed to fill backpacks to be donated to foster children. By contributing a few items, you can help restore a child’s sense of belonging in a new environment.

Items Requested:

  • Washcloth
  • Bath Towel
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Brush/Comb
  • Shampoo/Body Wash
  • Notebooks/Binders
  • Construction Paper
  • Pens/Pencils/Pencil Case
  • Colored Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Magic Markers
  • Toys/Card Games/Crafts/Play Doh
  • Books Music

Heather Newman
Heather Newman, Editor-in-Chief
Heather Newman, a current senior at Colonia High School, has written for The Declaration for the past three years. While she aspires to endeavor in mathematics in college and beyond, she is particularly content with the tactile sensation of a pen and blank piece of paper. Heather enjoys writing in a multitude of genres in addition to journalism, and has recently developed an affinity for poetry. In 2013, she received Gold and Silver Keys from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and was published in A Celebration of Poets. Aside from the language arts, Heather’s extracurricular passions include the Math Challenge Club, Science Research, Interact Club, swimming, and tennis.
Michael Albanese
Michael Albanese, Fall Editior & Public Relations Manager
Michael Albanese is a senior at Colonia High School, and he has been a resident of Colonia, NJ his entire life. He enjoys secular courses like history and reading/writing, rather than math classes and is interested in sociopolitical culture. Albanese likes to write about society and entertainment and hopes to make a career in media. Michael enjoys travelling, and there are few places he wouldn’t want to visit. The internet and social media are a big part of Albanese's life, but he also enjoys time spent with family and friends.
Jessica Lowrie
Jessica Lowrie, Spring Reporter & Editor
Jessica Lowrie is a high school senior at Colonia High School. After high school, she plans to attend Ramapo College of New Jersey where she will major in Social Work. She hopes to pursue a career helping children with the problems in life that they may have. Jessica is in Journalism 2 and is thrilled to have the opportunity to write for the school newspaper again. She has two jobs – working as a recreation leader at the Evergreen Youth Center and does clerical work at a local accounting firm. When she isn’t at school or working, Jessica likes to hang out with friends and read.
