Colonia Varsity Boys Basketball with a mournful defeat

Colonia and Carteret go head to head in a tough battle

On January 7th, at 11:30 on a snowy morning Colonia lost a devastating fight against Carteret. This game was nothing short of a relentless battle between two high quality teams.

Both teams arrived at Colonia High School with determination in their eyes. The snowy day set the perfect atmosphere for a good game to be played. It was clear from the start that this was not going to be an easy game on either end.

The start of the first quarter was a constant back and forth between Colonia and Carteret. It was filled with rough defense and tough offense from both the Patriots and the Ramblers. Carteret ended up with lead 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The game was quickly taken over by Carteret. Colonia led the game in fouls leading to an immense frustration for the Patriots. Yet Colonia continued to fight and refused to give up. By halftime Carteret still strongly held the lead 30-16.

The Patriots came back strong and determined after halftime. Both teams continued to perform and work hard.  As Colonia fought to come back Carteret still managed maintain the winning position, 42-35.

The 4th quarter was filled with excitement and suspense. Valeriano and Chapman both helped the team with a combination of shots and rebounds. Yet in the end Carteret came out victorious as Colonia came up short with 62-49 final score. Luke Valeriano had a great game, ending with 14 total personal points.

Overall, it was a tough fight between  Carteret and Colonia but Colonia came up short in the end. The hard fought battle showed the Patriots determination and offered a glimpse of the rest of their season. The motivation set within the boys basketball team offers a hope for a positive season filled with hard work, and confident energy.

Soos loves to be involved in community service activities, including 'Buddy Ball', and volunteering at 'The Special Olympics'. She enjoys country music, and campfires. Soos one day hopes to pursue a career that involves helping others and fitness. She has a brother who is a freshman in college. They have a great relationship and are very close. Soos is a part of the Colonia High School Varsity softball team. She is excited to be a part of Journalism, and cant wait to see what's in store for her junior year!
