The Lady Patriots receive a tough loss to the fierce Rahway Indians

On Saturday January 28, 2017 the Lady Patriots of Colonia High School were due to play the Rahway Indians.

Rahway with an overall record of 9-7 came into Colonia’s gym ready to get their 10th win of this season. Colonia has been working and practicing hard lately to beat Rahway at 9-7. Colonia has an overall record of 7-9. Not the best record but still competitive with the teams.

The game started at 11:30  with a great half from Rahway’s Samirah henderson. The score at the end of the half was 28-14. Colonia being very competitive with Rahway. Colonia has great communication skills and works together great on the court. If they kept playing like this then there might not have been such a big gap in points.

Rahway started to pull further and further ahead while they dominated the second have with 36 more points and Colonia 12. The final score was Rahway 64 to Colonia 26. The Indian’s really worked well on the court and came together in the end. It did seem like the girls on the court had great chemistry with one another.

When asked Gianna Reilly gave some insight on how she thought the team did as a whole. “ I think that we definitely could’ve played a lot better. Obviously the outcome wasn’t the way we hoped and planned but we have to work harder from here. They have that really good girl that averages 20 points a game. We knew that coming into it but we couldn’t lock her down. She was the key part to our loss.”

Although Colonia lost Gianna Reilly and Alexa Magliacano had their first scored varsity points against Rahway. Both sophomores scored 2 points each. It was a big moment for them. Angie Barrett Senior, was the leading scorer with 7 points; 2 of which were 3 pointers and one was a free throw. Caitlyn Hroncich sophomore, was the leading re-bounder with 5 rebounds and Laurina Archille and Kailee Stanely with both 4 rebounds.

Not every game is a successful one but they will just grow and get better from here. The Lady Patriots are practicing hard for GMC’s this week. They have New Brunswick High School on Thursday and hopefully they can get back on track before they compete in the GMC’s.
