Colonia Wrestling Clinches Win Against Kearny

On January 18, Colonia comes back home after a disappointing loss against Bishop Ahr to face the Kearny Kardinals. Colonia had the desire to get back on track, as the Kardinals, hoped to maintain another win.

With a record of 8-3, Colonia hoped to regain momentum and add up another win to turn around their major loss to the Trojans 24-44. In other news, the kardinals have come back from an away match against Orange as they impressively demolished them 60-18.

First up was the 106 lb wrestling event, as Colonia’s Jesse Warth went against Kearny’s Vincent Ruccatano. Warth hoped to overcome his odds after a win against Madison High, but Ruccatano would easily pin him within 1:27.

Kearny would gain another win as Steven Silva pinned Colonia’s resilient Joseph Dimperio within 3:04 in the 113 lb event. Colonia would gain their first win with Sophomore, Julian Arteaga, in the 120 lb event, by a technical fall. The winning would continue with Matt Sternesky in the 126 lb event, as he defeated his opponent Logan Malley, 9-0, with a major decision.

Kearny would turn it around as David Duran defeated Junior, Sean Lambert, 17-1, with a technical fall in the 132 l event, but star wrestler Luke Pero would bring another win in the 138 lb event as he took down his opponent several times gaining 7 points on the board and winning by decision.

The outstanding John Poznanski would follow in the 145 lb event, as Poznanski successfully defeats Kearny’s Christian Lopez by pinfall within 2:50. Colonia would then lose the 152, 160, 170, and the 182 lb events, but Junior, Christian Irizarry, would turn it around for Colonia in the 195 lb event as he demolishes his opponent and pins him in 1:50.

A forfeit by Kearny in the 220 lb event would gain Colonia another win, as Senior, Adam Abduelal, puts the “whip cream on top” and earns a breath-taking win by pinfall in the 285 lb event that would seal the deal.

Colonia would improve their record 9-3 as the Kardinals crash with now a record of 7-6. Clinching a win 36-35, Colonia would get ready to face Carteret the following day with confidence on their side.
