At the start of the Juggernaut competition, William Cotes, Brian Cushman, Jared Lal and Karuna Katariwala prepare for the competition while Adviser, Mrs. Linda Rockmaker cheers on her team from afar.

Colonia High School’s Juggernauts went to the top 16 playoffs of the B.R.I.T.E. tournament at Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School on Tuesday, January 25th after scoring 1st on the first 3 rounds.

After the preliminary rounds on January 28th, February 4th and February 11th, Colonia’s A-team scored first, sending them into the playoff. The playoffs were held on February 25th and Colonia went up against Pequannock TWP. With three games and a total amount of 2250 points, it was anyone’s game. However, Colonia won 1070 to 460 and earned and extra 50 points.

This score seemed like a pleasant surprise to Ms. Linda Rockmaker, the Juggernauts club advisor who stated, “Like most sport coaches, I don’t want to jinx our chances by making a prediction, but I’m very confident in our chances.”

The topics dealt with academics, but could also deal with pop culture and little known facts. During the first round, Colonia High School did their best with idioms, scoring a 150, and with psychology, scoring a 130. In the second round, Colonia got slightly less, receiving a high of 90 in Pennsylvania. Finally the third round brought fierce compeitition, with Colonia getting 150 in I Heart You, and their opponents getting a 120 in B.C.

One interesting facet of these Juggernauts competition is the range of topics; topics range from science to math to history to math history. However, many people have no time to study. The team captain William Cortes has said this about studying for competitions, “Generally I don’t, for the most part I just like academics and reading, and take an interest in things.”

If you are interested in joining Juggernauts see Ms. Rockmaker. Juggernauts meet on Fridays after school in room 110. All underclassmen are welcome to try out.
