First ever food stamp issued to low income U.S. families.
On this day September 11th in 1959 The U.S. Congress passed a bill authorizing the creation of food stamps. A Food Stamp is a voucher issued by the government to those on low income, exchangeable for food. They helped Low-Income Working Families Put Food On The Table each and every day.
