Coming off of an MVP season in 1948, DiMaggio continued to prove himself as one of the top baseball players of the 1940s. In a game against the Cleveland Indians(now known as the Guardians), DiMaggio hit 3 consecutive homers to lead the Yankees to a close 6-5 win.
DiMaggio was a contender in the AL MVP race yet again that year but ultimately lost to Lou Boudreau of Cleveland. Still, DiMaggio led the league in homers with 39 and RBIs with 155 along with a solid .320 batting average.
