Arguably the greatest baseball player of all time, Babe Ruth announced his retirement at the age of 40. He played for 22 seasons, won 10 World Series and hit 714 home runs, a Major League record at the time of his retirement.
Ruth was inducted into the Hall of Fame the year after his retirement. While Ruth spent most of his career with the Red Sox and Yankees, he played his final season with the Boston Braves.
His records stood for years following his retirement. His home run record was broken nearly 40 years after his retirement by Hank Aaron, his single-season home run record was broken 26 years after by Roger Maris, and his career slugging percentage of .690 is still the MLB record.
