Sophia LaRocca published ‘Diaries of a Fashionista‘ on July 26, 2021. The genres of this book are fiction and contemporary romance. I had the great honor of being mailed this by the author herself.
Synopsis
‘Diaries of a Fashionista’ is about a young journalist living in NYC for one of the top magazines. Poppy is very girly-think Elle Woods from Legally Blonde—that’s her. Atticus is a typical 20-something-year-old who never left his teenage dirtbag phase. They meet for the first time while Atticus moves into the apartment across from Poppy.
Poppy’s repetitive writing is boring her boss. She needs to write something completely different from what she usually writes. And what’s more different from Poppy than Atticus?
My Review
On Goodreads, there are only 3 ratings and 2 reviews, one of them being mine. My five-star review says,
“‘The Devil Wears Prada’ meets ’27 Dresses’
‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ meets ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’
I loved this book, and I can honestly say I was never bored, although it took me a while to read. LaRocca made it feel like a 2000s romcom in the best way possible.
This book made me happy because I want to be a journalist, and I love New York City, which is where it takes place. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance books.
We follow Poppy and her life as a journalist for a fashion magazine. Mrs. DuVull offered her to write the front page article for the January issue. Big deal! She needs this article to be something new and interesting, so she decides to follow around her polar opposite and new annoying neighbor, Atticus. Poppy and Atticus make eachother step out of their comfort zones and become better people. While Atticus is making Poppy step out of her comfort zone, her best friends Jeannie, Riley, and Tiff are doing the same thing. They want Poppy to meet someone new after being dumped by her ex, Liam. Jeannie, Riley, and Tiff believe that Poppy and Atticus are meant for each other, but they can’t be. Can they?
Others Review
Another reader, Belle, said, “Diaries of a Fashionista was such a fun, sweet love story about a fashion journalist named Poppy. Upon a new neighbor moving into her apartment building, she is assigned the biggest article of her career, where she has to highlight a new, unique, up-and-coming artist. She decides to befriend her new neighbor, Atticus, and write the article about him.
Atticus is the lead singer and guitarist of a pop punk band, and his entire way of living is completely different from Poppy’s. Going through this journey with Poppy to learn how Atticus lives and breathes the punk music and lifestyle was so fun. It takes us through the depths of both characters.
I have a major soft spot in my heart for a tormented soul, and Poppy does too, because, of course, she falls for Atticus. The only difference is that I fell for him right away, and she denied her feelings for him for quite a while! But hey, Poppy is young, so I’ve forgiven her for that lol. I just loved Atticus so much. His character is silly and playful, free-spirited, deep, and utterly romantic.
I had a fun time reading this book and seeing how both characters develop throughout the story, and I highly recommend it.”
Age Rating
I would recommend this book for anyone 13 and up. There was nothing inappropriate or cursing.
