With graduation coming next week, the underclassmen are growing more and more eager to finish their finals. They are looking forward to getting their summer started as soon as possible.
However, for the seniors, it is a different story. The seniors are experiencing a mix of emotions as they say goodbye to their friends and their favorite teachers. Even though we’re looking forward to moving on, we can’t help but feel sappy when thinking about the memories we’ve made. We’re all going to miss the lifelong friends we are leaving following this summer.
Memorable experiences
When I think about graduation day next week, it is a very bittersweet feeling for me personally. On one hand, I’m excited to see what I can accomplish in college. On the other hand, the idea of not being able to experience all of this for the first time again leaves me feeling nostalgic. I think I speyoak for every senior in 2025 when I say, we entered this school fresh out of the COVID-19 pandemic and we had no clue what to expect from it. However, looking back, there’s nothing I would change. When it comes to specific memories; I’ll never forget my first cross country practice and my first day of journalism sophomore year.
The fact that we were able to find purpose following the major changes this world went through is something I would call impressive. We all adapted to a new digital SAT format in our junior year and I think that brought us closer as a class. Therefore, I would like to congratulate the Class of 2025 and wish everyone the best in their future endeavors.
Experience with the Declaration
One of my favorite memories are the ones I’ve made in journalism. Starting off my sophomore year as a J1, I was very shy as a reporter. But I’m proud to say by senior year, I became a more confident journalist. Mrs. Allen was an excellent teacher and was very instrumental in helping me find my voice. Over three years, our journalism class grew from just a few students sophomore year to close to 150 this year.
I would like to thank all students that I’ve shared the class with for making my time in journalism fun. I liked being able to work with students with such a variety of interests. This allowed me to become more educated on topics that I’ve never looked into otherwise. I believe that opening yourself up to learning new topics is good for both journalists and people alike. I would also like to thank anyone who viewed our TikTok, Instagram posts and articles.
Thank you to Colonia High School and the Declaration
I would like to end this article by thanking the teachers and staff at Colonia High School. You guys pushed me to be my best self and to be a better student and ultimately, a better person. Thank you to my classmates and my friends for making high school so memorable and making it so difficult to say goodbye to something. Thank you to my coaches, family, and teammates for helping me accomplish my goal of running track and cross country in college.
Most of these fantastic memories came because of my involvement with the newspaper and in Mrs. Allen’s class. With my time in high school coming to an end, I will continue to follow the social media accounts and continue to check out the newspaper for new articles. Thank you again to all that have been a part of my journey throughout high school. I am Dylan Miller with the Declaration and I will always be grateful for you guys.
