The great Russian writer, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, wins the Nobel Peace Prize in literature. Solzhenitsyn was a leading writer and critic of Soviet internal oppression. The Noble committee said he was awarded this for,”for the ethical force with which he has pursued the indispensable traditions of Russian literature.”
