Bold, clean cut brows have become increasingly popular as celebrities like Cara Delevingne and Emma Watson extenuate their facial features. However, sometimes getting the perfect brow can be a daunting task.
The most classic practice of taming eyebrows is one you can do at home– tweezing. Tweezing allows you to take charge of your brows and shape them how you would like. The best way to tweeze yourself it to brush up your eyebrows into the position you desire and then pluck the remaining hair. The downside to tweezing is having the ability to over-pluck. While it is understandable that you want a trimmed brow, making the brows too thin will take away from their natural beauty.
“I have always gotten my eyebrows waxed,” Brianna Kelly, Colonia High sophomore, expressed. Waxing has become synonymous with “getting your eyebrows done” over the years, and there are reasons why. This method works on most hair types, but is especially renowned for its lasting effects with thick and coarse eyebrows because it typically takes hair a long time to regrow after going for a wax. Another added bonus is when those pesky hairs do begin to grow back, they will come in thinner and not as coarse.
While waxing is great for most, people with sensitive skin usually have a more negative experience with waxing. The area can become red and inflamed after being serviced, which can be extremely painful. People with thinner eyebrows may hate waxing for the same reason people with thick eyebrows love it– thinned brows. If you are all about the bold brow look but have naturally thin eyebrows, waxing may not be the best option for you as hairs that add to the fullness of your eyebrows could be removed and possibly never grow back.
There are many false conceptions about the ancient, yet recently popularized, method of threading. Unlike waxing, threading allows the server to get up and personal with the brows. In other words, the threader will be able to focus on removing individual hairs rather than sections of hair, which gives your brows a defined shape and full appearance. People often fear that threading will hurt more than waxing, which could be true depending on their pain sensitivity. According to Phillip Picardi of Teen Vogue, people at times fear that “While threading can offer an undone effect similar to tweezing, the super-speedy nature of the service is often cause for reckless hair removal.” Nobody wants to deal with the heartbreak of a bad eyebrow service, but if you are willing to try threading, many people have been satisfied with their results for centuries.
Ultimately, it is important to remember the brow motto: embrace what you have. Instead of plucking away at your eyebrows, work with the shape you have and clean up the stragglers.
