Clinton Road is a haunted, curvy road is located in West Milford, New Jersey. It is an attraction where people who like a good scare go and visit. This road is nine miles long, extremely dark, which forces you to put your high beams on while driving at night.
Clinton Road is said to be haunted from the legend of the “ghost boy” who lives under the bridge. Story has it that a little boy on the bridge tried picking up a quarter off of the ground on the bridge. As he was going to pick it up, a car was about to hit him. He decided to jump off the bridge, thinking it was deeper than it actually was, and fell to his death.
Legend says that if you throw a quarter off the bridge, the ghost boy will either throw it back at you or, at midnight, he will place the quarter in the middle of the road, in between the yellow lines. People have shared their stories of the experiences with the ghost boy. Some say nothing happened, while others say they got their quarter back and sometimes even seeing the little boy’s appearance.
It is said not to get out of your car while on this road because “weird” things might happen to you. This nine mile road consists of complete darkness. It is almost impossible to even see your car’s taillights. The only other light coming from this road is from the other brave people, wanting to travel this haunted road and also the “ghost trucks.”
These “ghost trucks” drive relatively far behind you, but you are still able to see their high beams. All of a sudden, this truck will turn off their high beams, not being able to see them on the road, and then turn them back on, except this time, they are tailgating you. This mysterious truck continuously turns their headlights on and off and follows extremely close behind. The truck speeds up trying to chase you off the road. It will continue to follow directly behind you until you are off of Clinton Road. It is said that the “ghost truck” is really people who live on the road, just trying to get a good scare out of people. Others believe it is actually a ghost, considering this truck follows most of the people who visit this road.
Though you can travel this road, there are some areas along this road that does not allow trespassing. For instance, there are forests on each side of the roads in which you are not permitted to go into.
Although the road is nine miles long, you have to drive back up it to leave. In total, it takes about 25 minutes to travel it, depending on how slow or fast you are going. It is recommended to not speed considering there are sharp turns and quick bends.
