A sophomore at Colonia High School, Frankie Brock is on the Varsity Softball team. She started playing softball since she was in third grade and has loved it and played ever since. The positions that she plays are first base and left field.
Her favorite thing about softball is “Being part of a team, and working together to execute a play. I love the feel of hitting a softball on the sweet spot and watching it bounce off the bat.” Speaking of hitting the ball on the “sweet spot”of the bat, she hit three home runs so far this season! One of those home runs was the turning point of the game and made it the most memorable play this season. “My most memorable play would have to be when I hit the ball over the fence at the JFK Colonia game. The hit brought in two runs and put us in the lead. My teammates surrounded home plate and I’ve never smiled so much in my life!”
Although there are many memorable and amazing plays on the field, not everything is easy. No athlete is perfect. Every athlete faces challenges. In an interview Brock said, “My biggest challenge on the field has probably been catching balls that hit the dirt. When I play first base some of the throws are too low, and it has been a challenge for me to scoop them and make the out. But I’m working on it and hope that I will improve before the season is through.”
Brock used to play for a travel team outside of Colonia High School, the Central Jersey Cyclones. But, she has “decided not to play this year to focus on getting a job.” She plans on playing softball for the rest of high school but after that she plans on “focusing on school and working hard toward a career in nursing.”
According to Highschoolsports.nj.com, out of seventy-one up at bats, Frankie Brock has twenty-four hits, seven walks, thirteen runs batted in and more. Brock said that, “The season is going pretty well. We made it to the second round of GMC’s and play our first states game on Thursday. We are a young team and hopefully we will continue to do well in my next two years as a part of the program.” Good luck to Frankie Brock and the rest of the Colonia High School softball team.
