On September 13, 1503 Michelangelo begins work on his statue of David. The David is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture created by the renown artist Michelangelo. Michelangelo was only 28 years old in 1503, but he was already the most famous and best paid artist of his day. He accepted the challenge with enthusiasm to sculpt a large scale David and worked constantly for over two years to create one of his most breathtaking masterpieces of gleaming white marble.
