On this day in 1959, Explorer VI, the U.S. satellite, takes the first video pictures of earth.This is the first ever image of Earth taken from space. It was captured by the Explorer 6 satellite in 1959, from a height of about 27,000 kilometers (17,000 miles). Our capability to image Earth has certainly come a long way since then. This image was a huge accomplishment and paved the way to many great space discoveries.
