D-Day, also known as Operation Overload, began on June 6, 1944 during World War II. D-Day turned the tides for the Allied forces, as it was the first major victory in their favor. And, in turn, the victory of D-Day was what allowed for the defeat of Germany. Eisenhower was a five-star general during WWII and served as Supreme Commander for the Allied Forces. Eisenhower became president of the United States eight years after WWII ended.
