Today in 1802, Congress creates the United States Military Academy better know as West Point. The Academy’s main goal was to train young men in the practice and theory in Military science. Originally, West Point stood as a fort during the revolutionary war and was nearly given up to the British by traitor Benedict Arnold. The first African-American student entered West Point in 1870, followed by the first female student in 1976. At the moment West Point has over 4,00 students and is working to train the next generation of Military Officers.
