John Waters (1946-Present) is an American film director, screenwriter, author, and actor. Waters is known for his transgressive cult films in the early 1970s. Waters would frequently work with a specific group of actors, which he titled the Dreamlanders. In this group of actors there were drag performers, high-art performers, and many other performers that would be considered controversial to the 70s. Waters is best known for his films Pink Flamingos and Hairspray.
