Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013) was a British stateswoman who served as the British Prime Minister from 1979-1990. Thatcher was the first female Prime Minister and effectively served for three terms. Thatcher would gain the nickname the “Iron Lady” from a Soviet newspaper, a nickname she would grow to love. She is known for being the inspiration behind the creation the political philosophy “Thatcherism.” Thatcher was also a highly influential voice in the neoliberal movement of the 80’s.
