Theodore Geisel (1904-1991,) otherwise known as Dr. Seuss, was an American author, political cartoonist, and poet. Geisel is best-known for his children books, such as Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham. Geisel spent time in the American military before writing children’s books, and for his military service he was awarded the Legion of Merit. For his works, he was awarded an honorary doctorates. He also received a Pulitzer Award for all of his works. And, over the course of his lifetime, he was also awarded with two Academy Awards, two Emmy’s, a Peabpdy Award, Lewis Carroll Shelf Award and Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal.
