Unknown to fans at the time, the Baltimore Colts packed up and moved to Indianapolis in the middle of the night.

Today in in 1984, owner of the Colts Bob Irsay moved the team to Indianapolis. Irsay’s idea to move was kept hidden from the public, he hired movers to take his office out of Baltimore and out to Indianapolis.  The Colts were regarded as the best in the NFL for some time, winning Super Bowl V in 9171.  However despite the Colts soon fell off and began to become a shell of there former success. The Colts in fact had become so bad that when the drafted future Hall of Famer John Elway in 1983, he refused to show up and had to be traded. Football would not return to Baltimore until 1996 when the then Cleveland browns packed their bags.  The team was renamed to the Baltimore Ravens and saw success winning Super Bowl XXXV in 2001.
