Today in 1990, members of the U.S. space shuttle Discovery put the Hubble Space Telescope into orbit. The idea for Hubble was originally conceived in the 1940s with design and construction during the 1970s and 1980s. Hubble would provide astronomers an unparalleled look at our Solar System, Galaxy, and the Universe. Hubble had one early problem however, its images were blurry do to an issue with its lens. NASA sent astronauts on a mission in 1993 which successfully fixed the problem; this in turn brought back clear images from the depths of space. The Hubble Space Telescope holds a resolution 10 times greater than any ground-based observatory. With a resolution the size of a bus, Hubble has sent back magical images such as the surface of Pluto and other distant galaxies.
