Lillian Hellman (1905-1984) was an American dramatist and playwright known for her Broadway plays and political activism. She frequently spoke up against Hitler and America’s inaction against the Nazis. For her loud leftist views, Hellman was blacklisted by the theater community. Hellman began teaching due to how passionate she was about writing and history, as well as being excited by student activism. She taught at Harvard and Yale, as well as many other colleges. She never stayed silent on the matters that were important to her, even later in her life.
