Jonas Salk (1914 – 1995) was an American medical researcher. He was the one of the first people to successfully develop a polio vaccine. Salk also campaigned for mandatory vaccination and believed that public health should be a “moral commitment.” He was also firmly against patenting medical drugs, as many people in the public needed them to survive.
