Vince Carter is seen here playing for the New Jersey Nets, one of many teams he played for during his 21 year NBA career.
On this day in 2000, the American basketball team played France. Vince Carter, a 23 year old shooting guard at the time, was widely known as one of, if not the, greatest dunker in basketball. The USA was leading 69-54 in the second half, and Vince Carter got a steal off of an inbound pass. He caught the ball around the 3-point line, and drove it in from there. Standing in his way of the basket was 7 foot 2 French big man, Frédéric Weis. Carter then did the unexpected and jumped completely over Weis and dunked the ball inside the hoop. Carter, who is 6 foot 6, was at an 8 inch disadvantage but turned into one of the greatest dunks of all time. America would go on to win this game and ultimately get the gold medal.
