On this day in 1974, Braves superstar Hank Aaron was able to tie the all-time home run record. It would not take him long to pass Babe Ruth and move into first place, where he remained until 2007. Barry Bonds of San Francisco was able to break Aaron’s record of 755 home runs with 762 total home runs over his career.
