What makes a good commercial?
When one is discussing a commercial you must bring up how effective, funny and memorable that commercial is. Advertising is an important part to persuading you to buy something.
Nowadays there are many types of commercials. The ones that standout however are three main types. One is the “Parody or comedy;” the direction that Old Spice or Geico commercials try to take. Also there’s the “Celebrity bandwagon;” where a company slams a bunch of celebrities in a commercial that you will recognize; Beats by Dre does this in almost all of their commercials. One of the biggest is the “go with flow tactic” where a company says it’s normal to use their product and many already do.
You might not realize it but if you watch a lot of T.V. you probably buy products based on what commercials you like. For example you’ve definitely heard of Beats by Dre. But you probably haven’t heard of the ATH-M50’s; a headphone that more DJ’s prefer and is significantly less money. Why is this so? It’s kind of simple, Beats uses way more money for advertising than most companies. That’s why you recognize them and buy them over a headphone you haven’t heard of but might be better.
Commercial advertising’s sole purpose is to convince you to buy that product. Whatever way they go about it will either turn you away from the product or persuade you to give it a chance. If a commercial gets you to evoke some emotion then that commercial has succeeded.
Who could forget the commercial where Dikembe Mutombo blocked an old lady, or when they showed animals that were abused and that they desperately needed your donations. If you remember it then the commercial is doing it’s job.
