I recently switched to the Function of Beauty Coily Hair Conditioner. As someone with coily hair, finding a conditioner that fulfills my specific needs is quite challenging. However, this product met my expectations and more.

According to a review on Insider.com, “Function of Beauty has received tens of thousands of five-star reviews.” Here are my thoughts on the product.

About the company

Function of Beauty has been customizing naturally-derived formulas since 2015. Their website states, “our formula commitment ensures formulas are safety-tested, dermatologist-tested and consumer validated.” Also noted on their site is that they use ethical, sustainable and naturally-derived materials in their made-to-order formulas.  All products are manufactured in the USA and are gluten free, vegan, paraben-free, sulfate-free and cruelty-free.

“We use post-consumer recycled materials for our product bottles and shipping boxes. In our production facility, we’ve implemented energy-saving processes and the size of our shipping boxes is designed to minimize waste,” the Function of Beauty website explains. The company also partners with GirlStart, a national women-led organization whose mission is to increase girls’ interest and engagement in STEM in grades 4-8.

Founder and CEO of the company, Zahir Dossa has several degrees from MIT and began the company while getting his PhD. At first his business idea was laughed by co-founder Joshua Maciejewski, but now they are laughing all the way to the bank. According to Inc.com, the Function of Beauty is a $110 million business.

Personalization of product

One of the standout features of this conditioner is its customized formula. Function Of Beauty allows you to personalize your conditioner by selecting specific hair goals such as hydration, curl definition, and frizz control. Additionally, you can even choose the fragrance and color of the conditioner, creating a truly personalized hair care experience. Can you customize your products?

The conditioner’s formula is rich, providing hydration and nourishment to coily hair. It detangles curls effortlessly, making them more manageable and reducing breakage. I have noticed a significant improvement in the overall health and appearance of my hair since incorporating this product into my routine.

Another aspect worth mentioning is the delightful scent of the conditioner. The fragrance I chose is a refreshing blend of floral and citrus notes, which lingers in my hair throughout the day. It adds an extra boost of confidence, knowing that my hair not only looks great but smells amazing too.

In terms of packaging, the conditioner comes in a sleek and sturdy bottle, which is also customizable.  The pump dispenser makes it easy to dispense the right amount of product without any mess.  The pump is optional for those who want to reduce waste.

Because your formula is customized to your specifications, it can always be adjusted if needed. They aren’t just a haircare company, they also make body care products.

Downside

The only downside I’ve noticed is the price point. Compared to other mainstream brands (Pricing), Function Of Beauty products are slightly more expensive. However, considering its high-quality ingredients and the personalized experience it offers, I believe it is worth the investment.

This product is also available in stores at Target or Sephora for a cheaper price containing general products for your hair type. Although it is not personalized, the formula is very rich and moisturizing and will still leave your hair feeling soft and looking defined.

In a review on Insider,com, Alyssa Powell stated, “When I tried Function of Beauty last year, I was not impressed. However, I decided to give it another try because I finally found a wash routine that had been working for me.” If you are not honest with the quiz and you don’t follow the directions properly, you might not get the desired results.

Overall, Function of Beauty Coily Hair Conditioner has exceeded my expectations. It caters specifically to the needs of coily hair, providing hydration, manageability, and a refreshing scent. If you are looking to invest in a conditioner that will enhance and nourish your coily hair, I highly recommend giving this product a try.
