Summary:
Smile 2 was ultimately a continuation to the journey of the smile entity. Smile 2 picks up right where the first movie left off, focusing on the chilling journey of the “Smile Entity,” a supernatural force that feeds on its victims’ deepest fears and trauma. The force that ultimately ends up in death. In the first film, we met Dr. Rose Cotter, a psychiatrist who tried to escape the entity but tragically passed it on to someone else in the end. Smile 2 continues this story, starting with that new host as it dives even deeper into the entity’s terrifying curse.
This time, the main character is Skye Riley, a famous pop star who has her own struggles with fame, addiction, and a painful past. Played by Naomi Scott, Skye becomes the perfect target for the Smile Entity. Her fears and stress create horrifying visions. Critics say Scott’s performance is outstanding, showing both her character’s strength and vulnerability. The film captures Skye’s disturbing encounters, where she sees people around her wearing eerie, unnatural smiles, creating an intense sense of paranoia and dread.
Throughout the film, we witness how this entity takes over Riley’s life. Not only that but it also toys with Riley’s head and makes everyone think she is relapsing. Riley encounters someone who believes has a way to stop the entity. Towards the end of the film, we find out how that unfolds.
Opinion:
In my opinion, I thought this movie was an entertaining eerie film that kept me on my seat. I saw this over fall break with my friends, and I had a good time. It was a good movie to see with friends and I recommend it for a fun Friday night with friends. I’m a fan of horror and lately, many horror movies haven’t truly frightened me. That was not the case for this one though. I have to say this film definitely had jump scares I wasn’t ready for. Compared to the first film, the fear factor definitely increased. The second film was scarier than the first one. This is impressive because normally the sequel is not better than the original. The shocking ending to this film was truly what got me and what made the movie so good. This sequel is one that doesn’t require that much background knowledge either. So, if you didn’t watch the first one it’s still a great movie that you’ll understand.
Derrick Pettus, senior at Colonia High School, stated, “I didn’t watch the first one and I really liked this one.” This is definitely a film that’s experience is enhanced by watching it in theaters. Bella Sperduto stated: “I definitely recommend watching it in theaters because it’s definitely a better experience.” Both people I interviewed about rating Smile 2 gave it a 8/10. I give this film a 7/10.
