Many couples decide that the wife will be at home with the kids and the husband will be out working. This makes the husband the only source of income for that family. But is this the smartest option for them financially?
Why Do Couples Do This?
These couples sensually make this decision so that the kids can get as much attention as possible. With one of the parents working, it gives the other to give their undivided attention. This way the mother can drive the kids to school, cook them meals, and do other errands. This leaves the father’s only job is to make the money. Another reason is that they cannot find anyone to watch their kids. While kids are young, it can be hard for parents to find or even trust an outsider with their children. In addition, money is a big concern when wondering if they can even afford a babysitter or put the child in daycare. This lifestyle develops the question if the mother should be working as well.
Why Could This Be Bad?
Speaking hypothetically, this decision in a marriage can lead to multiple issues. One of them is if something were to happen to the father’s income. If the father were to lose their job, what other income would the family have in the time being? The mother has no degree in anything to get a job, and the father would need some time to find another one. This would put them in a very difficult situation. Or even if the couple were to get a divorce. If they were to split the mother would have nowhere to go with no money. Especially if the child decides to live with the mother, how would the mother provide income for them? This is yet another realistic situation.
Additionally, the mother does not have a life outside of taking care of the children, so she is in a so-called enclosed environment. If they were to stay with the kids all day, being a caregiver would be their whole life. They would not know how to make money themselves, manage it, and learn how to save it. This would also cause them to have no life outside of the family. While having a job means you get paid, it also teaches you to have outside social skills with strangers every day.
Benefits of Married Working Moms
While these couples may not think it is the best option for them, there are many benefits to mothers working. While some make this decision because of financial issues, many still make this decision because it is hard for them to trust anyone taking care of them. But as hard as it can be, kids need to be around other people except their parents. If a child is around their parent for 24 hours of the day and 7 days of the week, they will begin to grow attachment issues to them. being that that is the only person ever watching them, they will be afraid and not know how to act around others. This way the child grows up with social skills and knows how to act around others excluding their parents.
Another benefit is for the mother to learn basic skills in life, outside of the home. When in an enclosed environment like our homes, it begins to be the only life we know. Working a job in public or even at home opens up your horizon to seeing other parts of life instead of just being a mother. It teaches us how to manage our own money, and how to talk to others, and keeps us productive. Overall, it is very beneficial for mothers to have working jobs.
