As we are right at the start of the new year for 2025, it is time to recap some of the highlights 2024 brought. As there were so many upcoming artists who skyrocketed listeners and had major hits, there should be a way to acknowledge and celebrate their hard work. In early December, Spotify listeners received their 2024 Wrapped to look back on their personalized top listens and activity on Spotify. But rather than seeing the top songs for just individuals, Spotify releases their most streamed songs in 2024 to see the top 10 listens globally:
10. “Die With A Smile”- Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars
“Die With A Smile” hit the charts in pop music and skyrocketed towards the end of summer in 2024. The song was released on August 16, and completely blew up due to the unpredictable pairing. By mid-December, it held the title of the most viral song in 2024, with over 1 billion streams in a spam of 17 weeks.
9. “Cruel Summer”- Taylor Swift
In the year of 2024, Taylor Swift brought 1, 309, 555 new listeners on Spotify. This was due to her hit single “Cruel Summer”, which was the hit single of her 2019 album, “Lover”. The song escalated in the months between June and August regarding its title. Compared to past years, the song had an increase of 362.4%, which was huge considering it s regular growth.
8. “One Of The Girls (with JENNIE, Lily Rose Depp)”- The Weeknd
The song by The Weeknd featuring JENNIE and Lily Rose Depp, was released in 2021. But it didn’t gain popularity until the beginning of 2024. This was due to a small section of the song going viral on TikTok. By February 11, “One Of The Girls” had reached the “Top Spotify Charts,” in the 2024 Spotify Wrapped.
7. “Too Sweet”- Hozier
By the end of 2024, Hozier’s hit song “Too Sweet” had gained 1 billion streams on Spotify. This was his second song to achieve this milestone. As it was released in late March, it came to be his number 1 most popular song on Spotify following his 2013 hit, “Take Me To Church”. Being that “Take Me To Church” has been around for over a decade and has nearly 3 billion streams, this song reaching over 1 billion in less than a year is insane.
6. “End of Beginning”- Djo
The song “End of Beginning” by Djo was released in September of 2022. Yet it didn’t gain much popularity until 2 years later in 2024. This was also due to TikTok increasing its popularity because of a trend that went viral. By the end of the year, it has received 1 billion views with it also being Djo’s most popular song on Spotify.
5. “Lose Control”- Teddy Swims
In 2024, the 2023 release “Lose Control” by upcoming artist Teddy Swims arises. The artist has risen immensely since the begining of 2024 with his album, “Iv’e Tried Everything But Therapy”. The hit single “Gata Only” by FloyyMenor and Cris Mj makes Spotify’s top 10. This song making the top 10 more so the top 5 is a huge success being that this is the only song not sung in English. The Spanish song was released in early February and has gained over 1 Billion streams.
3. “BIRDS OF A FEATHER”- Billie Eilish
In the final weeks of 2024, “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” by award winning Billie Eilish has made the top 3 most streamed songs on Spotify. The song has gained 1.78 billion streams in just this past year. 2. “Beautiful Things”- Benson Boone
By December of 2024, “Beautiful Things” by upcoming artist Benson Boone made the top charts! The song currently has nearly 2 billion streams on the platform making this song Boone’s number 1 most popular song and one of the most popular Spotify songs of 2024.
