As we got to know him throughout the pre-draft process, it was clear the goals Khyree wanted to accomplish both professionally and personally. His story was one of resilience. He was taking steps to become the best version of himself not just for him, but for those who cared about and looked up to him. Khyree’s personality captured every room he was in. I’m devastated that his life and everything he had in front of him has been cut short.”
Vikings Head coach Kevin O’Connell said in a statement. “I am absolutely crushed by this news. Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him. In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him. I am at a loss for words.”
INFLUENCE
Vikings players, staff and coaches were absolutely devastated when they heard the news. When Khyree was drafted he instantly became a big name in Minnesota. He was beloved by fans and coaches even before he got a chance to play. Many staff said how much Khyree’s personality lightened up the environment.
The Vikings wore helmet decals with the initials KJ throughout the season. Coaches had his initials on lapel pins and team apparel. Jackson’s No. 31 will go unused this year and his locker at TCO Performance Center (Vikings Stadium) will remain untouched. The Minniesota Vikings did so much to honor this young man.
There are a lot more deaths that impacted the athletic world in the 2o24. All of these players will not be forgotten. Deaths are very unfortunate but it is a part of the world, hopefully we have less athletic deaths in the 2025 year.
