It was finally time for UFC 310.
December 7, 2024 T-Mobile Arena — Las Vegas Fans witnessed an action-filled night filled with amazing fights, shocking moments, and performances.
Pantoja Defends His Title
The headline fight was a flyweight title bout between champion Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Asakura. Asakura is a former RIZIN champ and was making his UFC debut, but Pantoja showed exactly why he is one of the best in the world. Pantoja finished the fight in Round 2 with a rear-naked choke, causing Asakura to tap out. It was Pantoja’s third successful title defense, boosting his already formidable legacy in the flyweight division.
Rakhmonov Deals Garry His First Loss
The co-main event featured a matchup between undefeated welterweight fighters Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Machado Garry. It was a battle nevertheless, but Rakhmonov was able to get the upper-hand, winning by unanimous decision. The three judges all had the fight 48-47 for him. It was an undefeated victory for Rakhmonov, putting him a little closer to possibly getting a title shot. Garry also lost his first fight as a pro and had a funny moment in the fight where he was forced to change his shorts mid-fight due to a wardrobe malfunction.
Highlights from the Event
It was a night full of big moments that had fans on their feet. Vicente Luque made history with the fastest submission in UFC history an anaconda choke that tapped Themba Gorimbo in 52 seconds. Dominick Reyes had a great night as well, scoring a second-round TKO win over Anthony Smith. This was an important comeback for Reyes, who has struggled through some tough losses in recent years.
Heavyweight fighter Ciryl Gane took on Alexander Volkov in a hard-fought battle that went to the judges. In the end, Gane won by split decision, keeping himself in the conversation for a future title shot. After the fight fans were outraged and called the fight a “robbery”.
Tough Night for Some Fighters
Not everyone had a great night at UFC 310. Former middleweight champion Chris Weidman suffered another tough loss, falling to Eryk Anders by TKO in the second round. This has led many to wonder if it might be time for him to retire.
Ian Machado Garry, who entered the event undefeated, experienced his first loss in the UFC. Despite putting up a strong fight against Rakhmonov, he couldn’t do enough to win. Losing for the first time in his career will be a big test for Garry, but he will have a chance to bounce back in the future.
