Months after winning the 1994 NBA championship, the Houston Rockets still saw room for improvement. They made a major move, trading for one of the best guards in the league at the time-Clyde Drexler.
The Rockets were currently 29-17, sitting at third place in the then-Midwest Division. Drexler had already put together a solid career by his 12th season. He led the Portland Trail Blazers to two NBA finals, but they unfortunately lost to the Detroit Pistons in 1990 and the Chicago Bulls in 1992.
Unlike in Portland, Drexler took a back seat to Hall of Famer, Hakeem Olajuwon, who was the reigning MVP in 1994. Following the trade, Olajuwon missed some time with an injury, causing Houston to go 17-18 and enter the playoffs as the 6th seed in the West.
Drexler was clutch in the playoffs, averaging 20.5 points, even scoring 41 points in game 4 against the Utah Jazz in the first round to avoid elimination.
Houston went on to win their second straight title behind Olajuwon and Drexler.
