Dodgers pitchers Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale refused to report to spring training amidst a contract dispute with the club.
This was the beginning of their joint holdout, with each of them requesting a three-year, $1 million contract, to be divided equally between them. The deal was equivalent to $167,000 for each, which would make them the highest-paid players. Koufax however would eventually go on to become the highest paid player in the game.
