On this day in 1905, the world’s largest diamond was discovered in South Africa. Named the “Cullinan”, it was 3,106 carats and weigned 1.33 pounds. It was split into jewels that now reside in the British queen’s scepter, as well as the Imperial State Crown and others on display at the Tower of London.
