Junior Cotillion took place at the Forge in Woodbridge on May 15th from 6pm-10:30 P.M. Girls had dresses short and long some fancier than others and males got spruced up in tuxes and suits.
There was a total of 186 people that attended the prom. Last year there were 15 people more people in attendance. This year more juniors are brought other classmates rather than year previous where more people from other schools attended. The school administrators and cotillion planners were very happy with the outcome. Rumors were going around that Cotillion would be turned into an all grades dance if a certain amount of tickets weren’t sold, but the rumor was proven false thanks to the help of Mrs. McNamara, Cotillion Planning Adviser and Ms. Greene, Junior Class Adviser. Junior prom will only be for the juniors and their guests for the following year unless ticket sales plummet.
DJ Tom at Five Sound provided a constant beat for students to dance. Students were able to recommend songs to the DJ which pleased many student.
Sadly, there were no favors. Mrs. McNamara said they were trying to save money so they did not purchase favors. She also went on to say how not many people take them anyway so their was no point of spending money on something only a few people were going to take home. Another thing about the prom is their décor. The color scheme was tiffany blue with silver center pieces on the tables.
Many girls wore the color blue in different shades. Unlike the prom, there wasn’t a strict no shoe policy and many girls ended up taking off their heels towards the end of the night.
David Ferreria, a junior said how he loved Cotillion and can’t wait for the senior prom.
Paige Nonnenmacher a senior and a last year attendee to the Cotillion her junior year said that Cotillion was awesome. She was also happy how her Cotillion was at the Forge like this year. When she was a sophomore, the juniors that year had their Cotillion in the gym.
So the recent turnouts seem to make the students happy, and the food served was complemented by many people who attended. Its not as big as prom, but its a little teaser for there big day next year.
