In a game which was in Colonia’s hands from the start, Colonia defeated visitors South Brunswick 67-41. This was the first game of the season for the Patriots, and they started strong on their home court.
Led by an aggressive performance from sophomore Chase Barneys and junior James Corbett, Colonia did a great job of shutting down South Brunswick’s offense and rebounding. Colonia limited South Brunswick to only 19 points at half-time. This defensive effort and organization is what head coach, Coach Chiera wants his young team to thrive on, especially in the tough Red Division.
It was an overall tough day for South Brunswick, with none of their shots falling through the hoop. The effect of the “Colonia Crazies” didn’t help when Brunswick couldn’t convert. As a tribute to the team, Colonia’s Crazies hosted a “white out” with most of the student section of the gym wearing all-white.
Colonia, now 1-0, will go on to participate in the Rahway Tournament, where they will try to build on their momentum.
