On November 2, 2016 the Colonia Girls’ Powder Puff Team were up for a challenge as they faced the Woodbridge Barrons at the Patriot’s field at 6pm.
Senior coaches Tyler Layton, Tristan Weathers, Theodore Debarros and Tyler Zawacki stayed dedicated to the program as they did not only have to go to their football practices, but then they would have to go to the Powder Puff practices afterwards. Helping the team improve was their number one priority as last year haunted the Colonia Patriots with a lost to the Woodbridge Barrons. Colonia was devastated that they could only score one touchdown while Woodridge manage to score three.
Woodbridge had no doubt on there mind that they were going to win the powder puff game to Colonia, but little did they know that Colonia were not going down without a fight. With touchdowns and turnovers back and forth, the game ended with a score of 28-28 leaving it as a tie. Colonia would then receive the trophy due to the fact that they had made the most money in this 2016 Powder Puff fundraiser.
Destiny Bradley and Jess Donovan each scored a touchdown for the Colonia Patriots as wide receivers, Gigi and Gabby D’Emelio each scored two touchdowns for the Barrons.
During the first quarter of the game Colonia scored the first touchdown on Colonia’s first drive. The team’s confidence was off and after their touchdown they seemed like they couldn’t be stopped. The Barrons knew what to do with their defense line as Colonia’s offense simply couldn’t convert for the rest of the quarter after two touchdowns. D’Emilio would tie the game, but left all alone, Donovan would catch an incredible pass from Colonia’s quarterback, Noelle Bost in the second quarter to put the Patriots ahead.
Gigi D’Emelio would once again tie the game, but after Bradley runs towards the end zone for another Patriots touchdown, the Barrons had only a few minutes to tie the game.
Once Woodbridge scored during the first quarter Colonia refused to let that happen again. The coaches were in tough positions as they had to make hard decisions to benefit the team. Woodbridge got rowdy and tackled Bradley during a run and she was out with a head injury.
After Colonia got the ball back it seemed that the trophy would come back home with the Patriots as the clock kept ticking, but Gabby Montalban caught an interception that led to the great pass from Sierra Twomey to Gigi D’Emelio to tie the game 28-28.
Quarterback Noelle Bost was knocked down in the last second of the game after Coach Tyler Layton told her to run the ball. With little time, the patriots couldn’t find the end zone and the game would finish tied. “I felt like the pressure was on, and I had to come through for my team. Even though I didn’t scored, I felt relieved about running some yards. When I was knocked down I was disappointed about not getting the touchdown, but I was happy we ended in a tie rather than a loss,” Bost exclaimed.
