Shoparoo is an app that can be downloaded in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.  This app allows a user to raise money for their school by taking a picture of their receipt every time they go shopping.  With this app you shop, snap, and earn money for a designated school.

All you need to download and use this app is a smartphone and a functioning camera.  Although, it is suggested a user have the most up-to-date operating system for the app to work it’s best.

With Shoparoo, there’s nothing to buy, sell, collect, count, or mail in.  This app also does not require you to buy a specific brand.  Every receipt is eligible to be turned into a donation.

“It’s pretty good, sometimes it has a problem reading receipts but overall it has been a positive experience,” says parent of sophomore Regina Kube, Margaret Kube.

Shoparoo lets users know about bonus ways to earn money for our school.

Every time users goes to a store and receive a receipt, they could be earning money for their school.  Instead of throwing away a receipt or shoving it to the bottom of their purse or on the floor of their car, users take a picture of it. By taking a picture of the receipt, the user can earn “points” which can transfer into money for their school.  5,000 points is equivalent to $10.

This app isn’t just for well-known nationwide stores.  You can take a picture of any receipt from anywhere, even little stores only known in a specific area.

The school will earn an extra dollar in “points” for each of the first 20 people who join and submit a receipt, for a total of $20.

Not every receipt counts towards points.  Some receipts count as a sweepstakes entry.  Every month Shoparoo draws one lucky school to win $1,000 sweepstakes.  At the end of the year, they draw four schools to win their $15,000 sweepstakes.  To enter your school in all these sweepstakes, all users have to do is take a picture of a receipt from restaurants and non-grocery retailers.  For example, Dunkin Donuts, McDonald’s, and Staples are sweepstakes entries.

The fundraising cycle begins on August 1st  and ends the following July 31st.  Donation checks are sent to the designated school’s principal or PTO/PTA in August, after the cycle has ended.  If a school wins a monthly sweepstakes, a check will be sent out the following month.  In order to receive a check, a school must earn a minimum of $50 (25K “points”).  For schools who don’t earn the minimum of $50, the points roll over into the next year.

In order to help a user keep on  submitting receipts and constantly earning money for their school, Shoparoo rewards a user five extra points per receipt once a user has been uploading receipts for five consecutive weeks.
