On this day in history, the first ever successful nuclear explosion took place.

On this day in 1957, the U.S. detonated a 1.7-kilton nuclear weapon at the Nevada Test Site in an underground railroad. This was marked as the first ever successful detonation of a underground nuclear weapon.
