On August 8,2014 Director and Choreographer, Trish Sie released the newest of the Step Up movies; Step Up: All In. The drama/romance movie features actors Briana Evigan, Ryan Guzman and Adam G. Sevani who all have appeared in past Step Up movies.
Sean brings his dance crew known as The Mob to Los Angeles to try make it in the dance world by auditioning for tons of dance companies. But they haven’t had much luck, eventually the Mob decides it’s time to go back to Miami but Sean stays. He later learns of a dance competition in Las Vegas where the winner will win a 3 year contract. Since Sean is in need of a crew, he asks fellow dancer Moose for help. Moose introduces him to Andie, another friend and dancer who got injured a few years ago and is now ready to get back in. He recruits some other friends and they head Las Vegas as LMNTRIX. When they get there, they discover that the Mob too is also there, which is very touchy for Sean.
The movie started off very slow, probably because it was a continuation from the past movie Step Up: Revolution. Some of the scenes also didn’t make sense, and some of the scenes were very dramatic. One of the scenes with The Mob and a rival team the Grim Knights was not very realistic. It started out with them in a bar just having fun enjoying themselves , and all the sudden they broke out in a “dance battle” completely choreographed with flips. There was another part where the team LMNTRIX is making a submission video for the competition and they film it at Moose’s work, where he is an engineer. The scene was very unrealistic, but it was also a very neat and interesting theme for the video.
The main characters Andie and Sean who met through Moose when they were getting a group together start to have a liking toward each other. The chemistry the two were supposed to have wasn’t like it was in the past movies, and it was almost an awkward.
The ending of the movie was the finale of the dance battle The Vortex. The plot twist where the competition was rigged was definitely a nice added in conflict, and left you wondering what they were going to do. When the team finds out its rigged, Sean decides to put together groups and include his past team The Mob in their performance. This was the perfect ending because it was not only a good performance, but it was cool to see how they used different people from other groups. They used really interesting props like sand in the last performance and the costumes were very cool and different.
Overall the movie was definitely enjoyable but it is definitely a movie for dancers or ones that are interested in dancing or tricks and stunts.
