Hall of Famer Larry Bird scored a Celtic record 60 points against the Atlanta Hawks. By 1985, Bird had established himself as one of the best in the league. He dominated the 1984 season, winning both the league MVP and Finals MVP. In 1985 he continued his dominance, cementing his spot in the rich Celtic history. He was unstoppable against the Hawks, shooting 22/36 from the field and scoring 32 of his 60 points in the second half. Just nine days earlier, Bird’s teammate Kevin McHale broke the previous record, scoring 56 before getting subbed out. Bird famously told him “Should have gone for 60”. Bird finsihed the season with an impressive statline of 28.7 points per game, 10.5 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game on his way to winning his 2nd of 3 straight MVP awards.
