April 29, 1986- Roger Clemens strikes out 20

Before 1986, no pitcher struck out 20 or more batters in nine innings of play. Baseball legend Roger Clemens did it twice during his tenure with the Red Sox. He is till the only pitcher to strike out 20 in nine innings on two separate occasions. Clemens set two Red Sox records, winning 192 games and striking out 2,590. He won 3 Cy Young awards and won an MVP award in the 1986 season.

Clemens went on to finish the MVP campaign with a 24-4 record, winning his first 14 outings. In addition to his impressive record, he had a 2.48 ERA and 238 strikeouts.

Clemens won a record 7 Cy Young awards and achieved the triple crown twice.
