Colonia High School’s 2024 boys’ varsity soccer team has managed to elevate their game and achieve impressive results. Their unity and dedication have not only led to better performances but led to a well-played and successful season.
Preparation for the season
The Boys’ Varsity Soccer team has shown remarkable teamwork this season, with each player understanding their role and supporting one another on and off the field. They are even going through intense training sessions and possess a total commitment to improving their skills and movement. During training sessions, players do tons of agility, and ball movement, and practice communication for future reference during games. They start with a light jog, quickly switching to a passing drill to help warm the players up. Possession drills with the ball follow after that, where players split up into teams. This helps keep better control of the ball. To end off practice, they go into scrimmages which is a game-like activity to make players improve skills that they can utilize during games.
How do they succeed?
Gladly, due to Colonia’s Soccer practices, there were many factors in the team’s improvement this 2024 season. To prove that, Colonia’s fullback, Christian Branco, believes that the biggest factor to their success is playing together. Branco states, “When we play together, we are a lot more dominant on the field,”. Working together through numerous battles as a family, not just a team. Playing together assists players in understanding how one another plays; boosting confidence in the players for future practices and games.
Motivation on the team
Meanwhile, the players gain confidence in their play, they also gain motivation. Not only by other teammates but also by their head coach, Thomas Joraskie. As coach of the Colonia Boys Soccer team for plenty of years, Joraskie makes sure to never let a player bring themselves down. This is completely said to true by Colonia’s former striker, Daniel Santos, he explains, “Coach motivates us a lot by knowing how to keep our heads up and he helps us move on quickly from losses, making sure we stay in a good state of mind.”
Overcoming Challenges
However, the team still had to face very difficult challenges, which is where the motivation kicks in; to not ever give up. The most difficult of them all was versing Saint Joe’s High School. Only lost by two goals, yet that game didn’t do anything except make the team feel the need to work harder and stronger. It taught them to move forward from a loss and not to sit there in defeat.
But from that point forward, Colonia High School’s Boys’ Varsity Soccer team will continue to play marvelous and hopefully achieve the win of their state games. They came a long way through practices, ties, losses, and countless wins to back down now. As the 2024 season comes to an end, we thank all players who participated and played. Particularly the seniors who are saying their goodbyes once the season is done. Wishing the Colonia High School boys’ varsity soccer team luck!
